Control Procedures |

The Tools menu includes a variety of control procedures designed specifically to manage a form's control indicators. Each control procedure can set (check) or clear (uncheck) a specific control indicator en masse. Control procedures also allow for the creation of an optional range that can be used to restrict the procedure.
The following control procedures apply to all forms:
Form 1098, 1099, 3921, 3922, 5498 and W-2G control procedures:
Form 1095-B, 1095-C control procedures:
Form W-2 control procedures:
Form W-2C control procedures:
The following two scenarios illustrate the power and simplicity of control procedures.
Scenario 1: After printing more than 25,000 W-2 forms across multiple reporting states you realize that Iowa's State ID was incorrectly reported. You return to the State ID Page of Client Management and correct the State ID but are now faced with the task of reprinting only those W-2s with a reporting state of IA.
Plan a Solution: Since all W-2s have been printed, the first step is to set each W-2's Printed indicator. Since all W-2s are affected, a range is not required. The next step is to clear the printed indicator on each W-2 with a reporting state of IA. Since the reporting state is restricted to IA, it will be necessary to define a range. Finally, print the W-2 forms. Only those W-2s with a reporting state of IA will print.
Execute the Plan:
When done, the Printed indicator will be checked on each W-2 form.
When done, the Printed indicator will be unchecked on each W-2 form having a Reporting State #1 of IA. Since W-2 forms allow for the possibility of two reporting states, you should repeat the second part of the above solution for Reporting State #2 as well.

Scenario 2: After printing and e-filing all of your 1099-MISC returns you realize that you inadvertently forgot a few. You are now faced with the task of entering, printing and e-filing the missing returns.
Plan a Solution: Since the previously entered 1099-MISC forms have been printed and e-filed, you need to set each form's Printed indicator and clear each form's Efile indicator. Once done, you can enter, print and e-file the missing returns as usual.
Execute the Plan:
When done, the Printed indicator will be checked on each 1099-MISC form.
When done, the Efile indicator will be unchecked on each 1099-MISC form.
You can now enter, print and e-file the missing returns as usual. |
